Teach your children that violence is NOT OK.
In my last blog I wrote about how important it is to teach your children that violence is not OK. My Mum brought us up in a loving home as a single Mum we were happy children, we didn’t have much in terms of things, and we were in housing, but looking back as a young children I never thought about possessions. So when the violence started happening to me from my children’s father that was not normal and not OK as I had not been brought up that way.
My best friend at school Michelle was beaten up by her step father and her mother never did anything to stop him she stayed with him, Michelle loved her mum she was a quite lady but was very scared of him, I didn’t have a dad around and I remember being so scared when ever he was around thinking is this what fathers do.
Michelle ended up on the streets with her sister and onto drugs and prostitution, my mum let her stay at house some times and I tried hard to help her off heroin but I was only 13 at the time. She ended up in prisons and died of a drug over dose.
The reason I tell you this I have no doubt in my mind looking back that Michelle and her sister would never have ended up on drugs and into prostitution if they had a loving home, Michelle would be alive today instead of being beaten and living on the streets in fear, they should of been taken out of that home.
I ended up working in a youth worker in detention centre’s for years, there was not one girl I can recall who was into prostitution that had not been brought up in an abusive home some of the things I had to listen to broke my heart, girls telling me they told their mum about abuse and they never listened or believed them.
Young kids running away from home because of abuse, children should always come first; they are precious gifts from god and should be treated that way.
